A fun thing about living in China is pineapple season! Pineapples aren’t grown in Beijing, but they appear for sale everywhere in the late winter. You can find them at the supermarket, fruit and vegetable vendors, and on the back of trucks on street corners.

This season is extra fun because wherever you buy them, they will either peel them for you, or have already peeled pineapples ready. Not only do they get the peel off, they use a special cutter to get all the eyes out, and it makes a spiral shape.

Then your pineapple is ready to enjoy! Some of the small shops also sell a quarter or half of a pineapple on a stick for your snacking pleasure!
